Today's new UN report on emissions if countries follow their current pledges under the Paris agreement shows 3 things: 1) we are not even close to being on track; 2) we need a steep decline of emissions in this decisive decade, even for 2°C; 3) naming and shaming is not working.

What would it have looked like without naming and shaming?

If Paris wouldn't have built on voluntary self-declared contributions it probably wouldn't have happened at all. Countries aren't willing to face what needs to be done. Blaming and shaming was to get us there eventually, but if the gap remains large, Paris could unravel by 2030.

And still no one in power is taking decisive action to mitigate this looming disaster.

I have a proposal: Stop all oil tankers. No transport: no CO2. Use armed forced to enforce it. Thats what the army is for: protect the planet from danger. Oil is the danger. DONE. If not enough: shut down all pipelines.

Ceasing all oil flow overnight would send cities into collapse, countless millions thrown into destitution, darkness and hunger. We need a determined, swift and concerted energy transition, not walk billions into the ravine. It is a wicked problem

We might try, among other things, making sure we and our 401ks are not invested in fossil fuel corporations

Gee, great thinking. When we plan to live with it we are getting somewhere. UK currently looking at a dark cold Winter. No wind, no French nuclear power.
