A preference isn’t a bias and I have no idea what you mean by CA science, much less that it is settled. This is partly why it’s such a vibrant research area. To pretend otherwise is disingenuous. CAs freq. make use of the wide and inclusive participatory practices you champion.

"The science on citizen assemblies is settled" is what you said to me when we spoke Peter. I don't know what that means either. I took it to mean you felt we no longer needed to discuss the fundamental issues I was raising. A healthy democracy needs challenge right?!

That’s not a phrase I recall. More likely that I said form or practices. If you were unclear, you might have followed up. My issue isn’t the challenge or the critique — it’s your tactics and manner.

I wonder. It does seem that you have a problem with Paul's manner. Fair enough. But from what I can see on here today, you don't have any problems yourself playing the man rather than the ball. I'd tone it down if I were you: it really doesn't help.

I‘ve watched this persist for sometime without speaking up. Thankfully, in a democracy when someone is playing a gotcha game, you don’t need to play along. There are better ways to change minds and support people who are doing their best.

Sadly, Peter, I'm not sure it's worth engaging. I used to try and respond to every tweet from Paul and have a conversation, but eventually I gave up. What he's doing is called "sealioning": medium.com/digital-diplomacy… Why I've chosen to ignore.

Can you not see how bad (and unprofessional) that looks? Even if that's what you thought, why put it out there? There are other ways of expressing yourself.

Ian, I'm wary of wading into this. And many of us are probably watching this exchange with some horror. However, Claudia has been treated very unfairly over the past 9 months or so, sometimes this has to be called out.

I've not engaged at all over the past few months because of the emotional toll it has taken, but I do want to publicly stand up for Claudia here. I'd also like to note that it doesn't have to be like this. There is an important debate to be had here, but it has to be respectful

Why have you personalised this Simon? We are having an exchange here about professional issues, not personal. None of this is personal. All of my criticisms of what has been published on these topics is entirely professional, never personal. Please don't make it personal!

Out of curiousity, you really can't see how your statement can be see as not quite "entirely professional and never personal"?

It's a professional point about how the discussion has narrowed from what was a wide-ranging movement for a healthy wide & deep democracy to a narrower form of deliberative democracy to many now just advocating for CAs, with a lot of hard sell.

And your really can't see that those in the discussion that you flag as members of the "army of CA salespeople" could find your military wording personal ? And it's your professional point that they are "not interested in anything else"? #notmywar
